Conferences are coming fast!

We really value our connections with the families of our students. We appreciate your time and dedication. Family involvement is vital to our students' success.

Our Title I/LAP Coordinator, Katie Pickrell, makes every effort to attend as many conferences as possible which have been scheduled with teachers. At the conference, you will be updated on your child's progress and reading assessment information, as well as challenges or successes we are seeing as we work with students in our reading support program.

If you would like to schedule a separate conference with our Title I/LAP Coordinator, please call (360) 629-1270 or email Katie Pickrell at kpickrell@stanwood.wednet.edu.

We look forward to partnering with our amazing families to help our students achieve success in reading!

Annual Title I/LAP Parent Meeting

Hello families!

You are invited to join us at our Annual Title I/LAP Parent Meeting on Wednesday, October 25th in the Twin City Library from 9:15-10:00.

Come to enjoy some coffee, juice and treats and learn about the Title I/LAP program at Twin City and how we are helping your child achieve success in reading! There will be fun activities for the kids while the adults learn about the Reading Support Program at our school.

If you cannot attend, I'm happy to schedule a meeting with you at your convenience to provide information about our program and what you can do to support your child with reading at home.

We hope to see you there!

Welcome Back from the Title I/LAP Team!

Hello students, families, teachers and community members!  Welcome back to another exciting year at Twin City Elementary School! Our teachers and staff have been working hard to set up our learning spaces and learning more about helping our students learn and thrive in our school.

Along with our teachers, our Title I/LAP staff, and all other adults in the building have been learning how to help our students create a peaceful, happy, healthy and productive learning environment at Twin City using the PAX program. Our students and staff discuss and set up a PAX Vision for how we would like our learning environments to operate, and we work toward those goals everyday. Ask your child how he or she is working hard to be a PAX Leader each day!

We are very excited about the reading intervention curriculum our district is using with our students who need additional support in reading. We are using two levels of Really Great Reading phonics-based intervention curriculums: BLAST! for our primary students and HD Word for our intermediate students. Both programs help students understand phonics, explicitly teach strategies for decoding unknown words, and involve great materials that kids are excited to use, such as magnetic letters, sylla-boards to study multi-syllabic words, and high-interest, engaging activities to practice what they are learning. Our staff has been trained, and we are excited to use these programs with our students!

Stay tuned for further blog posts, information, and ideas for supporting your child at home. We are so excited to work with our families and help our students succeed! Thanks for reading our blog!

Read Across America at Twin City!

Guess what Tigers! We are going on a reading road trip

Our students are going to see how far our reading can take us! Each minute you read is worth one mile. We are going to compete with other classes to see who can read the most on our reading road trip map.

You will get a packet with information and sheet of Reading Mileage Tickets. Fill out your name and your teacher's name and then, simply write the date you completed 20 minutes of reading. Once you have finished 60 minutes of reading time, cut out and turn in your ticket to the library. Your teacher will have additional tickets if you need them.

Each week, fabulous prizes will be drawn for each grade level from the tickets you turn in. We will also track your classroom's reading mileage across our Reading Road Trip map!

Watch this quick video for information about our Reading Road Trip event at Twin City from March 24th to April 21st

Happy reading, Tigers!
